Do YOU have a flair for Marketing?

If so, this is THE competition for you!

Business Bridge has teamed up with Land Securities (who own and run St Johns Shopping Centre in Liverpool) to offer you the chance to win some fantastic prizes.....

The Challenge

Go it alone or collaborate with a friend to meet the initial task outlined below. If you are one of the lucky ones to be shortlisted after the closing date of 3rd December 2007 (5pm) you will then be given up to 3 marketing tasks spread over a 3 week period in February 2008 and will win a guaranteed minimum prize of £100*. Each week a distinguished panel of judges will decide who stays and who leaves the competition. Nine individual students or pairs will be shortlisted from the entry forms received in December 2007 to go forward to the St Johns Marketing Challenge in February 2008.

The Prize

The Winner: £500* plus four weeks marketing experience, comprising a week at Land Securities, Radio City 96.7, Heathcotes at Anfield (Liverpool Football Club) and the Liverpool BID (Business Improvement District) team.

Runner-up prize: £300* and certificate

3rd and 4th prizes: £150* and certificate

5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th prizes: £100* and certificate

The First Steps

There are no forms to fill in, simply provide us with your answers to the task below and your contact details as specified.

The Initial Task

St Johns Shopping Centre has to compete with other retailers and shopping centres both in Liverpool city centre and within 45 minutes drive time. Their primary objective is to retain retailers and shoppers. Your task is to:

1) Identify the competition

2) Prepare a St Johns SWOT analysis

3) Answer the following tiebreaker in 50 words or less, "I/We have what it takes to win the St Johns Marketing Competition because...."

  • Entries must be no longer than 2 sides of A4.
  • Your entry can be posted or emailed to your nearest Business Bridge office. If emailing, please attach documents in Microsoft Word format.
  • We require your: name, student ID number, contact email and telephone number, course you are studying and at which university
  • Business Bridge contact details can be seen by selecting 'student' in the red drop-down list above and then selecting 'contact'.
  • The closing date for receipt of entries is Monday 3rd December 2007 at 5pm.

The competition will commence on Monday 4th February 2008 with the winner being announced on Friday 29th February 2008.

Why Enter?

For a start, imagine going for an interview and using this competition as an example of when you've taken the initiative, worked as an individual or part of a team, prioritised your time, demonstrated enthusiasm for marketing and gained real experience. Will an employer be impressed? You bet they will!

Then there's the financial side - £500 would no doubt be very useful for all manner of things whether it's a new interview suit, an i-pod, theatre tickets, a celebratory bottle of champagne or all of them!

Invaluable experience in the workplace is also offered (at a time to suit you) with four distinguished organisations. It will certainly enhance your CV and will give you the cutting edge over others when you're looking to progress your career.
