Learning Northwest Success Awards 2002
The promotional campaign for the Personnel Assistant was recognised at the Learning Northwest Success Awards 2002. Pictured (right) with their finalists certificate are Michelle Baines (Employer Liaison Officer) and John Trantom (Development Officer).

Background
The external evaluation of Business Bridge carried out in the first phase of LENW highlighted a gap in the SME sector's ability to effectively manage the student placement. In response to this, it was decided that a set of Human Resource Management (HRM) materials be developed that would assist in strengthening the SMEs' capacity to manage higher level skills.

Firstly, extensive research was carried out to establish the current recruitment, induction and training practices of a sample of Merseyside SMEs. Over 100 SMEs were interviewed in total, ranging in size and sector. Click here to view the Executive Summary of the research.

Personnel Assistant
The results of the research informed the development of the HRM Materials - Personnel Assistant. The Personnel Assistant has now become an integral part of the Business Bridge process, enabling SMEs to put effective management tools in place and thereby making themselves ready to recruit and manage graduates.

The Personnel Assistant provides advice and guidelines on recruitment and selection, induction and performance management.
