Before the bridge
  • To visit the employer on-site to:
    • Explain Business Bridge process and operating procedures
    • Complete a health & safety questionnaire
    • Discuss business needs and define project(s)
    • Check the feasibility of the project and, if necessary, signpost the employer to a different provider
    • Provide the student and employer with a copy of the Student/Employer Agreement and Action Plan to be completed at the start of the project
  • To conduct an informal meeting with the student candidate to asses their skills and suitability for the project
  • To send student details to the employer with a view to setting up a first meeting/interview
  • To keep both the student and employer informed of project progress
  • To be registered as an employer and have requisite public and employer liability insurance
  • To employ the student on a temporary and pay them regularly
  • To have a designated contact within the organisation with a clear understanding of the project and skills required, who will deal with the students candidate
  • To approve/amend the project brief
  • To be prepared to make a decision on the candidates suitability for the role within a reasonable time period (3 working days)
  • The final decision on a student(s) suitability to undertake the work rests with the employer
  • To be prepared to countersign the Student/employer Agreement and contribute to the Project Action Plan
During the bridge
  • To contact the company and student by phone/email once a month to review progress against the Project Action Plan
  • To be available to offer guidance and support to the student or company
  • To provide an introduction to company including any special safety procedures that must be followed
  • To devote a designated time each week to discuss progress with the students and review/amend deadlines accordingly
  • To be aware of the academic commitments of the student e.g. exam periods
After the bridge
  • To evaluate the project from both participants' perspectives
  • To define further project(s) with the company
  • To develop and maintain a lasting working relationship with both the student and the employer
  • To be available for a post experience evaluation
  • to be prepared to develop a lasting working relationship with Business Bridge
  • To be prepared to act as a referee for the student
